Ushna Shah says she was speaking 'as a fan' when criticising Hadiqa Kiani

Actor also revealed she was annoyed by Kiyani's OST for her upcoming serial

Ushna Shah seems to find herself in hot waters a little too often. This time, the actor has scorned Hadiqa Kiani, one of Pakistan’s most beloved female singers.

On Saturday, Shah took to Twitter to state that Aima Baig and Quratulain Balouch (QB) are the “only credible female vocalists” in Pakistan. When a fan mentioned Kiani on the thread, she replied saying, “Ehn.”

That tweet, since deleted, was sent to Kiani and the singer took it upon herself to list down all the powerful female vocalists that are present in Pakistan today, added that, “Women need to support women!”

Kiani wrote, “Shall we educate Ushna Shah on some brilliant Pakistani female singers? Women need to support women so I think it would be really cool if we gave her some songs from Pakistani female singers?” on her Instagram story.

She added, “Of course Aima Baig and QB are immensely talented but there’s a long list.” The Boohe Baariyaan hit maker said that she would start the list and people could add onto it. The story continued to grow and response after response kept pouring in.

However, according to another one of Shah’s comments, currently circulating on social media, and her latest response to Kiani’s elaborate list proving her initial statement wrong - it turns out the actor was only taking a dig at the latter to begin with.

Her comment read, "Putting this on record: should have taken Aiman Khan for female vocals – ruined my visuals."

Whereas in her response to Kiani, she had tried to clarify her initial tweet by saying that she was speaking "as a fan." But at the same time, Shah pointed out how the OST for her upcoming drama serial, sung by Kiani, had "annoyed" her.

"Sorry Hadiqa! Oh Allah, please keep my Twitter away from me when I'm delirious and opinionated late at night. Please cure me of my foot-in-mouth disease. I loved my OST, I have been playing it on repeat since last night," she quipped in response.

Shah added, "She just didn't sound like her usual self and as a fan, I got genuinely annoyed."

The starlet continued to ask her followers to remind her to not react the way a normal fan does in these kinds of situations. "Please remind me in such moments that I shouldn't react the way a normal fan does. Please lock me out of Twitter late night, Ameen. Everybody say Ameen!" she concluded.

The list of singers Kiani compiled to school Shah included a number of industry staples. It featured Abida Parveen, Madam Noor Jehan, Farida Khanum, Nazia Hassan, Sanam Marvi, Meesha Shafi, Zoe and Rachel Viccaji, Natasha Baig and Mai Dhai, among others.

On the contrary, however, Baig commented on Kiani’s posts saying she respected whatever Shah had said in addition to the fact that much of the real talent was still undiscovered.

"I respect whatever Ushna Shah quoted. Hadiqa jee is already a legendary artist for all of us. But there are many young talented girls that are out there too and they should be given a chance along with the surety that their dreams can also come true – not today maybe, but tomorrow isn't too far either,” she stated.

“If a random person like me can have it, I have a firm belief that they all can have it too. All we require is a little bit of harvesting and we'll be surprised by the talent we have in our country."

Kiani agreed with Baig’s stance on the matter and continued to reiterate that Pakistan does have immense talent that just needs to be highlighted.

"Exactly! Pakistan has an immense amount of talent that needs to be highlighted. More songs for more new female singers, more encouragement and more representation," she concluded.
