Sindh saw as many as 1,667 new coronavirus cases overnight, while 20 more people died of the contagious disease, taking the provincial death toll to 575.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah shared that the province had conducted its highest number of tests in a day so far – a total of 8,390 – of which nearly 20 per cent turned out to be positive. This brought the total number of cases reported in Sindh to date to 33,536.

He further apprised that with the rising death toll, the mortality ratio in Sindh had increased to 1.7 per cent of reported cases. Moreover, 366 patients were in critical condition, of whom 66 had already been put on ventilators, he added.


On the other hand, Shah shared that the recovery rate in the province had gone up to 50.1 per cent, with 764 more patients recovering from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 16,782.

According to the CM, currently, 16,179 patients were under treatment, with 14,910 isolated at their homes, 99 at isolation centres and 1,170 at different hospitals.

Out of the newly-detected Covid-19 cases in Sindh, 1,311 emerged in the provincial capital alone, disclosed Shah, adding that 312 cases were reported in East district, 271 in Korangi district, 257 in South district, 241 in West district, 143 in Central district and 87 in Malir district.

He further stated that 42 people tested positive for the virus in Hyderabad, 38 in Ghotki, 32 in Kashmore, 25 in Khairpur, 24 in Sukkur, 22 in Larkana, 21 in Shaheed Benazirabad, 11 in Dadu and Sujawal each, 10 in Shikarpur, eight in Badin, seven in Jamshoro, five in Sanghar, three apiece in Jacobabad, Qambar-Shahdadkot, Umerkot, Tando Mohammad Khan and Thatta, and one each in Mirpurkhas and Matiari.
