Sindh Assembly speaker’s relative shot dead

Bullet-riddled body was found in his car in the middle of the road in Garhi Yasin

HYDERABAD: A relative of Sindh Assembly speaker Agha Siraj Durrani was shot dead in Garhi Yasin, Shikarpur district, on Tuesday. The bullet-riddled body of Agha Ishtiaq Khan Pathan, a former irrigation engineer and landlord, was found in his car on Daro Jakhro link road.

The police shifted the body to the Garhi Yasin taluka hospital. According to the initial postmortem report, Pathan had sustained a fatal bullet wound in his neck.

Shikarpur district council chairperson Agha Maseehuddin Durrani, arriving at the hospital, told the local media that Pathan was on his way to his farm when he was attacked by unknown assailants. The motivation behind the murder is still not known.

"There are no enemies whom we suspect," said Pathan's son, Safwan, adding that their family resided in Sukkur.

DSP Atta Muhammad Abbassi said the vehicle had been stopped in the middle of the road, adding that though the police did not find any weapon from the vehicle, they found the slain man's mobile phone and agricultural documents. The DSP believed that the murder was likely a result of personal enmity, but stated that it was still too early to draw any conclusions. But still it is earlier to draw conclusions.

Taking notice of the incident, the Sindh Assembly speaker sought a detailed report from the police.
