Another policeman falls victim to virus

As many as 24 traffic wardens and 17 personnel of Dolphin Force have been infected with Covid-19

Another police official has lost his life due to the Covid-19 pandemic, raising the death toll in Lahore police to five.

The victim Sub-Inspector Khalid Hussain, had isolated himself at his home for over a week after infection. He survived by five children and the widow.

A day earlier, CIA Civil Lines DSP Amir Dogar lost his life to the novel coronavirus. Three other Lahore police personnel, Head Constable Shams Shafiq, Head Constable Ramzan Alam and Inspector Rao Javed, had fallen victim to the pandemic earlier.

Coronavirus is spreading at a fast pace among Punjab Police. On Wednesday, an SP and DIG posted at the IG office lso reportedly tested positive for the disease.


So far, over 650 officials of Punjab Police have tested positive for Covid-19, while reports of hundreds of suspected cases are awaited.

CCPO Zulfiqar Hameed said that so far 121 police officials in Lahore had been quarantined due to coronavirus, while 84 had recovered from the virus.

As many as 24 traffic wardens and 17 personnel of Dolphin Force have been infected with Covid-19. He said Lahore police were most affected among all the departments.

“Lahore police is ensuring security and safety of the citizens while facing all the risks,” he said.
