Afridi leaves for Hampshire’s quarters

All-rounder keen to shine, to return for local events.

KARACHI:

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi left for England yesterday to resume his Friends Life T20 commitments for county side Hampshire.

Hampshire will meet Durham for a place in the semi-finals at The Rose Bowl on Sunday with the experienced all-rounder, who missed the side’s final group match due to his father’s illness, will join the team’s training camp ahead of the quarter-final clash.

Afridi, who has taken 14 wickets from eight matches in the competition, was looking forward to helping his team advance in the tournament.

“I enjoyed playing for Hampshire and I’m looking forward to helping them qualify for the semis,” the former captain had said prior to his departure.

Afridi will return to Pakistan the day after the match to represent his local teams in various Ramazan Twenty20 tournaments only to fly back to England should Hampshire make it to the finals day.
