Weekly bazaars emerge without permission in twin cities

Rates of vegetables and fruits have also come down

While the district administration allowed weekly bazaars to open in the neighbouring Islamabad, weekly bazaars sprung up in the garrison city have sprung up without any official sanction.

All 16 weekly bazaars in Rawalpindi were set up on their allocated sites and where trade continued from 8am to dusk, The Express Tribune learnt during a survey.

With a relaxation to the movement of goods transport vehicles, the rates of vegetables and fruits have also come down. However, the rates of poultry items and meat varied in suburban and rural areas of the garrison city.


The survey further revealed that the price of chicken per kilogramme (kg) stayed at Rs190 in suburban areas while it was sold at Rs260 per kg in urban areas.

Similarly, the price of milk per litre stayed between Rs100 and Rs120 with variation corresponding to localities. Yoghurt was available for Rs120 per kg.
