9-member JIT formed to trace cops’ killers
Two investigation teams set up earlier fail to identify culprits
ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad police on Saturday formed a nine-member joint investigation team (JIT) to probe into the killing of two policemen by unidentified suspects at a picket on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the two investigation committees formed under the supervision of SPs have remained unable to trace and arrest suspects.
The committees had been constituted soon after the incident by the Islamabad Inspector General (IG). Both these committees have submitted their progress reports in the case to the newly formed JIT.

In a notification issued by the Islamabad Chief Commissioner on Saturday, the Operations SSP will head the committee. The other members of the JIT include SP Saddar Sarfaraz Virk, Sub-Divisional Police Officer DSP Khalid Awaan, SHO Tarnol Police Station Inspector Arshad Ali, SHO Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) Police Station and representatives of secret agencies.
The committee will present a detailed report of the incident to the Islamabad Chief Commissioner.
11 gunmen attack houses, police contingent
Sources in the police department said that sections of terrorism acts have been included in the first investigation report (FIR). It added that the included sections of terrorism oblige the formation of a JIT which will ensure the investigation of the incident in a transparent manner.
ASI Mohsin Zafar and Head Constable Muhammad Sajjad were deputed at a police picket in Chungi 26, within the remits of the Tarnol police station, when two unidentified gunmen riding on a motorbike attacked them on Tuesday evening.
