Accused abducted 18-year-old girl on motorcycle and sexually assaulted her
FAISALABAD:
A teenage girl was gang-raped by five men after being abducted in Landianwala area. The details obtained by The Express Tribune revealed that Ali Akhtar, a resident of Chak No 145GB, Jaranwala, got a case registered at Landianwala police station. He stated in his complaint that on the night May 23, an unknown armed man entered the victim’s house by climbing over the wall and woke up the family at gunpoint and began searching their rooms.

He looted Rs50,000 cash and gold jewellery from a trunk. The accused abducted an 18-year-old girl on a motorcycle for sexually assaulting her. The suspects identified as Asif, son of Yusuf, Atiq, son of Ghafoor Saknae and resident of Chak No 651 GB, Ahmed, son of Umar Hayat, Shafqat, son of Naseer and resident of Chak No 155 GB and one of his accomplice allegedly raped the girl and left her on May 24.
Police registered a case against the accused under Section 376 of the penal code and started raids to arrest them.
In the year 2020, four cases of gang rape in different police stations of Faisalabad were registered including two in Landianwala police station, one in Ghulam Muhammadabad police station and one in People’s Colony police station, respectively.
Two cases of these incidents were dropped from Ghulam Muhammadabad police station and People’s Colony police station on baseless allegations while two cases were still under investigation.
In 2019, 59 cases of abuse of minor boys were registered in which 66 accused were found to be involved and arrested.

Similarly, in the year 2019, 15 cases of abuse of minor girls were registered in which 18 accused were arrested by the police. Two cases of murder, after being, rape were registered in which three accused involved were arrested in the case of murder and rape in said year.
In addition to this, 67 cases of women raped were reported, out of which nine were dismissed and 21 accused were arrested in 19 cases. In 2020, 15 cases of sexual assault were registered in the first five months of the year out of which police managed to arrest only two suspects in two cases.
Punjab Assembly had passed the pending Zainab alert bill which was pertaining to death penalty for child sexual abuse, after the Kasur incident. In the days when the bill was pending in the assembly, there was an increase in rape cases in the province.
There were more than 27 cases in Sammundari and Dijkot, similar to the Kasur video scandal, but the actual number was reportedly much higher. According to details, most of the citizens prefer to remain silent on the incidents instead of reporting the cases in public due to a lack of awareness in villages.

However, the cases Sammundri and Dijkot involved videos of the sexual abuse of children recorded on the accused’s mobile phones. At first, SSP operations refused to confirm the release videos to suppress the issue, but later when the number of cases increased, the officers in police lines, including parents of the children, informed the media about the scandal in a press conference and stated that these cases occurred in the region.
