Nurses’ protest enters 20th day in Sindh

Nurses demand the use of a four-tier formula for their promotions

The protest being held by nurses from across the province continued outside Karachi Press Club (KPC), marking its 19th day on Saturday.

Sindh Young Nurses Association (SYNA) general secretary Heera Lal and chairperson Syed Shahid Iqbal maintained that the protest would continue until the injustice done to the nurses was recompensed.


Lauding the determination of their colleagues, SYNA representatives revealed that the protesting nurses had even spent their Eidul Fitr at the KPC. They further stated that the option of shutting down hospitals across Sindh was still under consideration, but the final decision ould be taken at the Grand Health Alliance meeting on Monday (June 1).

The nurses have demanded the use of a four-tier formula for their promotions, the implementation of a service structure, the provision of health professional allowances and risk allowances, as well as a resolution of the issues faced by nurses at Dow University of Health Sciences. Other demands include the promotion of nurses working on contracts, promotion of nursing students, provision of personal protective equipment and relief packages for the families of deceased frontline nurses.
