Minister orders case against factory owner

KARACHI:
The seepage of chemical and poisonous water into the houses of the Hindh community has been noted by the environment minister.

Environment and alternate energy minister Shaikh Mohammad Afzal has ordered that a case be filed against the owner of the factory. He should also be held accountable for not allowing the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) team to inspect his factory. According to media reports, chemical waste and water is being released into the Jogi Morr locality in Bin Qasim town.

The water has entered 30 houses in the village, leading to outbreaks of diseases among the residents.

A committee had been formed earlier to take action against the factory owner but the team had not been allowed to enter the factory.

Villagers told the team that the factory does not have a proper drainage system and toxic waste reaches their houses every three or four months.

“The management of the factory is not resolving the issue despite complaints from the villagers time and again,” the minister said, adding that it was high time a case was filed against people who are responsible.
