Coronavirus kills first health worker in Kohat
Hospital in provincial capital gears up for surge in patients
KOHAT/PESHAWAR/CHARSADDA:
A nurse has succumbed to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in Kohat on Thursday officials said in the first fatality of a health care worker in the district from the virus.
Mussarat Dilbar was a nurse at the Kohat Development Authority (KDA) hospital and had tested positive for the virus a few days ago. She had been admitted to the facility but her health condition continued to deteriorate and on Thursday, she succumbed to the virus.
The Young Nurses Association said that so far, some 131 nurses have tested positive for Covid-19 in the province and demanded that the provincial health department provide all those on duty with personal protective equipment (PPE).
The death of the nurse comes after the demise of two doctors in the province including Dr Javed at the Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) and Dr Ashraf at the Saddar Headquarters Hospital. Amongst paramedics and health workers, Wasim Gul at the Hayatabad Rural Health Centre (RHC), Haji Munir a technician at a Swabi hospital and ward boy Shakir in Charsadda have succumbed to the virus. An ambulance driver has also succumbed to the virus in the provincial capital.Patient surge feared
The management of the Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) in Peshawar has directed all of its medical staff to ensure they are present for their assigned duties given the rising number of patients, including Covid-19 patients.
The hospital’s management on Thursday issued a circular addressed to the chairmen of various departments, and the in-charge of different units and sections.
