Six new ad hoc additional judges of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) took oath here on Tuesday.
Chief Justice PHC Justice Ijaz Afzal Khan administered the oaths during a ceremony held at courtroom 1.
Khalid Mehmood, Fazal Haq Abbasi, Nisar Hussain Khan, Waqar Ahmad Seth, Qaiser Rashid and Malik Azmatullah were inducted as additional judges. Following the inductions, the number of judges has now reached 15 at the PHC.
Additional registrar PHC Niaz Mohammad presented the presidential notification of appointment of the additional judges for a one year period. The newly inducted judges started work following the oath-taking ceremony, since judicial work had already been assigned to them.
The judges were recommended by a judicial commission headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on July 6. The parliamentary committee had also approved these names as President Zardari, on the advice of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, appointed the six judges for a period of one year.
