Two teams set up to probe into picket attack in Islamabad
Funeral prayers of the martyred cops offered at Police Lines
ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad Police on Wednesday set up two teams to investigate the gun attack on a police picket in the federal capital which left two officials dead.
ASI Mohsin Zafar and Head Constable Muhammad Sajjad were deputed at a police picket in Chungi 26, within the remits of the Tarnol police station, when two unidentified gunmen riding on a motorbike attacked them on Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday, Islamabad Police Inspector General (IG) Aamir Zulfiqar visited the crime scene and directed Operations-DIG Waqaruddin Syed and Investigation-SP Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer to lead separate teams to investigate the attack and arrest those responsible for the attack.
Earlier on Wednesday, IGP Zulfiqar and other senior police officers and personnel attended the funeral for the two martyred police officials at the Police Lines Headquarters. A guard of honour was also presented to the slain officials.
The IGP assured the families of the two slain cops that they will be provided with all departmental benefits including educational and medical facilities.
He added that personnel of the Islamabad Police have sacrificed their lives to protect the life and property of citizens and that their sacrifice will be remembered forever.
“Every officer and constable [of Islamabad Police] is willing to fight for the life and property of citizens until the last drop of their blood,” he said.
He added that those involved in the heinous murder of the ASI Zafar and Head Constable Sajjad will be brought to justice.
“The cowardly act of criminals cannot browbeat us, instead this will help boost the morale of the force,” the IGP said.
Later, the body of Head Constable Sajjad was dispatched to his ancestral town in Haripur for burial with full police protocol.
