ISLAMABAD:

PML-N leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi on Tuesday broke once again with his party’s leadership and said that he would support any legislation to create a new province in south Punjab, saying that the creation of new provinces would help improve the quality of governance in the country.

“If more provinces can be created in other countries on demand of people why such practice cannot be adopted in Pakistan,” he said.

Hashmi called the move ‘the need of the hour’ and begged the country’s political leadership to ‘listen to the voice of the people.’ Hashmi’s party is the most vociferous opponent of the creation of new provinces. The ruling PPP, along with the PML-Q and the MQM, have all come out in favour of the South Punjab province proposal.
