RAWALPINDI: A minor girl was critically injured when a glass-coated kite string slit her throat in Rawalpindi, police said on Tuesday. However, doctors described her condition to be stable.

The Waris Khan police said that six-year-old Hania was travelling with her father on a motorbike when the loose kite string slit her throat near Committee Chowk.

She was immediately rushed to the Benazir Bhutto General Hospital (BBH) where she underwent three operations. Doctors at BBH said that the girl’s jugular vein was intact but that she had suffered very deep cuts. They went on to describe her condition as stable though family members said that the victim’s condition was still quite serious.

The Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO) Ahsan Younus took notice of the incident and directed the Waris Khan police to curb kite flying in the area. He further urged the parents to instruct their children to refrain from this deadly activity.

Later, Waris Khan police station Station House Officer (SHO) also visited the victim in the hospital and assured the family that they are searching for the suspects. He further said that a first information report (FIR) of the incident has been lodged.

Kite flying is banned in Punjab for several years now owing to the casualties kite strings can cause.
