Anjum Aqeel's interim bail extended

Aqeel did not appear in court due to illness.

RAWALPINDI:
A Rawalpindi court extended interim bail of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Anjum Aqeel till August 11, as he did not show up for the hearing due to his illness, Express 24/7 reported on Tuesday.

The hearing of the National Police Foundation fraud case was scheduled to be held at the court of Special Judge Syed Akhlaq Hussain Shah as the interim bail granted earlier to Aqeel had expired on Tuesday. However, the hearing could not take place as Aqeel did not appear in the court as he was being treated at a hospital.

The court criticised the investigation officer for using delaying tactics and ordered the jail superintendent to present Aqeel before the court on August 11.

As previously reported, Aqeel was sent on a judicial remand till July 30 under the orders of an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi after he was forcibly freed by as many as 30 men within hours of his arrest in regards to the land scam case.

Earlier, eight people who helped the MNA flee from the police custody last week were sent to jail on a 14-day judicial remand. However, three other accused were acquitted by the ATC in Rawalpindi.
