A police spokesperson said that they have arrested the man whose pistol allegedly went off accidentally, resulting in the death of his 11-year old nephew.
Industrial Area police said that they received information on May 14, that 11-year old Hammad Ali had been critically injured after firing by armed motorcyclists. The boy was then rushed to the Holy Family Hospital in neighbouring Rawalpindi by his maternal uncle Muhammad Adnan where he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, Industrial Area SP Zubair Ahmed Sheikh visited the suspected crime scene while a case for the incident was registered on an application filed by Muhammad Waqas, the father of the deceased boy.
SP Sheikh constituted a special team under the supervision of ASP Zohaib Ranjha along with Homicide Unit In-Charge Inspector Aashiq Hussain Shah, Industrial Area police station SHO Mian Khuram Shehzad and others. This team investigated the case and obtained video recordings from the Safe City cameras. Moreover, phone records of Adnan were also obtained.
Adnan also told the police that he was going to meet his friend in Sector I-10/4 when the incident took place.
Thereafter, Adnan switched off his cell phone and disappeared. However, after two days, police managed to trace and apprehend Adnan. He then confessed that the boy was killed by a bullet fired from his pistol. He told police that he was cleaning his gun at home when it went off accidentally and the bullet hit his nephew.
He said that he had rushed the boy to the hospital but he succumbed to his injuries. He said that the boy was the only son of his sister and he conjured the entire attack to avoid the wrath of his family.
