69% wheat buying target achieved in Punjab

Traders and flour mill owners have also been directed to maintain a complete record of stored wheat

Divisional Commissioner Ishrat Ali has said that 408,480 metric tonnes of wheat has been procured in the Faisalabad division so far, which is 69% of the total target fixed for the division.

Briefing media persons about wheat procurement drive at his office on Tuesday, the commissioner said that the total wheat procurement target for the division is 592,000 metric tonnes.

He said that wheat was being purchased from farmers at government fixed rates of Rs1,400 per 40 kilogrammes and the total procurement target would be achieved soon.


The commissioner said he hoped that 90% of the target would be achieved before Eidul Fitr in Jhang, Chiniot and Toba Tek Singh districts.

“Wheat procurement would continue till the last grain is bought from the farmers,” he asserted, adding that a vigorous crackdown against hoarders is underway in the division. “The hoarders are being punished as per the law.”

The traders and flour mill owners have also been directed to maintain a complete record of stored wheat.
