‘NDMA did not help in Sindh’s Covid-19 fight’

Nasir Shah says PTI minister statements absurd and baseless

KARACHI:
In contrary to the claims made by the federal government that it had provided medical equipment to the Sindh government through the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), the authority has not provided a single ventilator or set up any laboratory for coronavirus patients in the province, said Sindh Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Saturday.

The provincial minister said Sindh had more than 280 ventilators at present, while the provincial government had ordered 200 more on its own, half of which were to be delivered soon.

Currently, he added, there was a capacity of 1,200 beds to treat Covid-19 patients, which was being increased to 2,000.

Meanwhile, Shah advised the federal ministers to focus on serving people in distress instead of making 'baseless allegations' against the Sindh government.

"Statements made by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) spokespersons regarding the Sindh chief minister are absurd and baseless," he said, adding that the federal government's focus was on defaming the Sindh government, rather than creating public awareness about coronavirus prevention.
