MARDAN: The traditional archery competition, locally known as ‘Mukha’, has kicked off in Katlang tehsil of Mardan.

Yousafzai Mukha Organisation Provincial President Amjad Hussain inaugurated the tournament on Tuesday.

Sharing the schedule of the traditional game, Hussain said that all matches will be held at night from 10pm to 3am because it is Ramazan and the season to harvest wheat. Moreover, he said that all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) issued by the government to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) will be implemented for the tournament.

At least 12 teams are taking part in the game from across the district while each team comprises six players.

He further said that they have re-named the competition as ‘Smart Mukha Tournament’ to ensure that the virus prevention guidelines are followed during the tournament.

The Yousafzai Mukha Organisation was permitted by the local authorities to hold the traditional tournament on the condition that they ensure physical distancing is observed.

The tournament will continue until Eidul Fitr.
