RAWALPINDI: Personnel of the Punjab police patrolling various streets of the city started undergoing testing for the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) on Sunday.

The testing is being carried out on the directions of the Punjab Additional Inspector General (IG).

In the initial phase, swab samples of as many as 20 police personnel were taken and sent for testing, a spokesperson for the patrolling police said.

He added that the force has devised regulations for testing in consultation with the health department. The spokesperson, however, said that all personnel will keep performing their duties until the results of their tests come back. If then any officer is found to be infected with the virus, they will be shifted to the hospital for treatment.
