Beggars descend on twin cities

RAWALPINDI: The holy month of Ramazan seems to bring good business for beggars as people open their wallets wide during the holy month.

After the relaxation in the lockdown was announced and markets opened partially, the professional beggars in different parts of the garrison city have also sprouted up to make some bucks. Not only the markets but these alms seekers are found sitting outside mosques five times a day as well.

Subsequently, the anti-beggars unit has given them a free hand and they have apparently been allowed to carry out the exercise fearlessly.

The citizens are also concerned about the rising number of professional beggars and complained that they get surrounded by them outside every shop, stall, or even mosques.

The people have demanded the administration take strict action against them as these professionals infringed rights of those who really deserved to receive charity and alms.
