K-P CM orders Covid-19 testing facility at LRH

PESHAWAR:
The provincial chief executive on Wednesday directed the health department to provide a latest PCR machine to the Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) for setting coronavirus testing laboratory and also make arrangements for temporary accommodation of frontline workers of the health facility.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister said this during a visit to the LRH. The chief minister was briefed on the hospital’s response to the Covid-19.
CM Mahmood lauded services of LRH staff in the fight against coronavirus. He has assured the provincial government would extend all support to the hospital.
The chief minister was informed that a dedicated separate block with a capacity of around 250 beds had been allotted for coronavirus patients in the hospital wherein 306 health workers including doctors, nurses and paramedics perform in there different shifts.
The provincial chief executive was further informed that a high-dependency unit with a capacity of 80 beds and an isolation centre with a capacity of more than 80 beds have been dedicated for corona patients. It was told that 30 ventilators have been spared for Covid-19 patients.
Presently at least 50 coronavirus patients are admitted in the hospital out of which 15 are admitted in the Intensive Care Unit whereas the rest are in high-dependency unit, it was informed.
The chief minister was told that around 500 patients have been provided treatment in the hospital so far.
CM Mahmood expressed satisfaction over the hospital’s preparedness and response to the Covid-19. The healthcare workers have put their lives at risk to protect others, he said, adding that the provincial government would take all possible measures for their protection from the virus.
Provincial Health Minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Advisor to chief minister Ajmal Wazir, K-P Chief Secretary Dr Kazim Niaz and Health Secretary Imtiaz Hussain were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the LRH spokesperson Muhammad Asim in a statement on Wednesday said that the gynaecology department of the hospital has not been shut for an indefinite period. He said it would soon be reopened after screening of the healthcare staff and once the building is disinfected.
