LAHORE: The lockdown imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic had been accompanied with an increase in cases of violence during robberies, domestic violence and drug pushing.
On Wednesday, a police constable was attacked by drug pushers and addicts with blades in Gulberg police limits.
The constable, identified as Aslam Ali, registered a complaint with the police, stating that he along with a friend was going somewhere when they spotted a drug pusher openly supplying narcotics to addicts near the FC College underpass, in broad daylight.
When the constable tried to intercept the drug seller, all of a sudden as many as nine drug addicts surrounded him and attacked him with blades. The victim sustained serious injuries. The complainant demanded justice and appropriate action.
In the last few weeks, incidents of robbery involving violence, murder or injury over resistance, were increasing. Last week, a citizen was shot dead outside an ATM for offering resistance during robbery in Faisal Town. The victim was identified as Khalid Asif.
