KARACHI: The police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested five members of a gang, involved in over 100 robberies, in a raid near Nagan Chowrangi on Tuesday.

Central Intelligence Agency's (CIA) Special Investigation Unit conducted an operation on a tip-off to arrest the five suspects, namely Abdul Sattar alias Comrade, Sabir Hussain, Irfan Ali, Abdul Rasool, and Liaquat Ali.

According to CIA SSP Irfan Bahadur, the suspects have confessed to their crimes during the initial investigation.

He said that the suspects used to follow citizens to banks and rob them of their money at gunpoint. Moreover, they used to wear helmets during most robbery bids, the SSP said, however, adding that they had carried out some robberies without donning helmets, making it possible for the police to identify them in CCTV footage and track them down.

The SSP further stated that the suspects had revealed that their group had eight members, therefore, the police were carrying out raids to arrest the rest of their gang members.
