Kensington Palace has long been the site of many royal tiffs and dramas with scores of royals having lived within its walls - from Princess Margaret to Diana and now Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Much of the drama doesn't escape the ears of the people who have worked there as palace staffers. "You couldn’t hide anything from anyone," one palace staffer told British author Tom Quinn, who reveals explosive details about life in the palace in his new book, Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle.

Writing for Daily Mail, Quinn revealed snippets from his book - from Diana and her trysts to Princess Margaret and her many rows with her husband. According to insiders, drama followed the young occupants of Kensington again as Meghan Markle moved in.

According to Quinn, when Meghan first moved into Harry's cottage in the Kensington Palace grounds, Kate had been welcoming and both couples had got on well. However, Meghan apparently shouted at Kate's staff once and that was the final straw, revealed a servant.

"On the one hand she wants to be like Diana, a people's princess, and on the other she wants people to stand to attention when she clicks her fingers," said a former servant. Many of the palace staffers also believed that her dominance was obvious.

Harry reportedly told staff, "What Meghan wants, Meghan gets." Following this, staff, according to reliable reports, began using unflattering nicknames for her within weeks of her arrival which included 'Me-Gain', the 'Duchess of Difficult' and even 'Di 2' or 'Di Lite'.

According to the book though, many of the palace staffer's disdain wasn't shared by the Queen who did not mind Meghan much.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex did not live at Kensington Palace for long though - the couple moved into Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
