PESHAWAR:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government on Thursday approved establishment of a provincially-owned Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Transmission & Grid Company (KPTGC) to address issues faced by the energy distribution system.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting presided by K-P Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.

Briefing on the decision, Advisor to Chief Minister on Energy Himayatullah Khan hailed the efforts of K-P Power Secretary Zubair Khan and his team members, including PEDO CEO Engineer Naeem Khan and Project Director Engineer Amin Khalil for their continued efforts for the establishment of the province’s first-ever transmission and grid company, according to a press release.

“The province will be able to distribute its own produced electricity to national grid and industrial sector through the transmission company,” said Himayatullah, adding the longstanding efforts behind the establishment of KPTGC have materialized.

He said that K-P has abundant energy resources through which 30,000 MW cheap hydropower energy could be produced.

Currently, KP was producing 162 MW hydropower energy of its own resources and inducting into national grid which enabled the province to earn billions of rupees annually. In upcoming two years, 214 MW electricity would be further added after completion of hydropower projects. The advisor added the new KPTGC would strengthen economic position.
