Dengue wards to be set up in Pindi hospitals
RIUKT will reserve 100 beds for dengue patients
RAWALPINDI:
The Rawalpindi district administration and health authority have completed preparations to handle dengue cases during the upcoming monsoon season.
For this purpose, the district administration has started setting up separate wards in the allied hospitals including the Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH), the District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital, and the Holy Family Hospital (HFH).
The Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and Kidney Transplant (RIUKT), which is currently serving as a dedicated facility for treating novel coronavirus (Covid-19) patients, will also dedicate 100 beds for dengue patients.
The district administration will also set up special wards for mosquito infected patients at Cantonment General Hospital (CGH) and Railways Hospital. Sources in the district health authority said that the duty rosters for medical workers at these wards have been prepared ahead of the dengue season.
Further, the arrangements for increasing the capacity of different quarantine centres to treat coronavirus patients in the garrison city to 2,000 are also underway.
The hospital and district authorities have deliberated over the mechanism to fight the challenge of dengue epidemic along with the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, the district health authority (DHA) has been directed to expedite its activities to cull dengue larvae across the district. The district emergency response committee and the tehsil emergency response committee are monitoring the entire anti-dengue drive. An awareness campaign will also be launched by the Rawalpindi administration to sensitise the people against the dengue threat and precautions against it.
