Dates: Exports increase by almost 10 per cent

Date exports increased by 9.87 per cent, amounting to Rs4.1 billion, during the first nine months of fiscal year 2010-11 compared to the corresponding period last year, sources in the Ministry of Finance said.
The export is an increase from Rs3.73 billion made during July-March 2009-10, they said. Overall exports of fresh dates stood at 6.2 million kg in 2010-11 compared to 4.8 million kg in 2009-10, showing an increase of 28.93 percent over two years. The major importer of dates during July-March 2010-11 was the United States of America.
