No response from Centre, Sindh: mayor
Available staff, ventilators, infrastructure, could not be used effectively

Despite several letters being written to the federal and Sindh governments regarding strategies to control the spread of Covid-19, there has been no response, claimed Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar in a meeting on Saturday.
"The available resources, including medical teams, doctors, paramedics, infrastructure and equipment - especially our 58 ventilators - could not be used efficiently [as a result]," he stated.
Akhtar added that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation had 14 major hospitals that were not being utilised properly in the crisis.
He maintained that the situation could have been handled better had the provincial government adopted a mutual strategy, instead of relying on different institutions separately to help citizens. Highlighting the ways to curb the further spread of Covid-19, Akhtar maintained that, as discussed earlier with private hospitals across the city, an increase in screening capabilities should be made the focus. He stated that ideally testing should be increased to 6,000 per day.
