Qadir, Tauseef hopeful of spinners
Fast Track camp concludes in Lahore.
LAHORE:
The Pakistan Cricket Board Fast Track Coaching Programme for spinners concluded yesterday with hopes that the country will see an improved show from the slow bowlers with coaches Abdul Qadir and Tauseef Ahmed confident that the training would help them at the international level.
Qadir and Ahmed spent more than a week at the National Cricket Academy working on basic spinning techniques and concentrating on fielding drills.
The camp, however, saw just a handful of spinners being pointed out as potential players for Pakistan, including leg-spinner Usman Qadir, left-arm spinner Raza Hasan and off-spinner Rohail Ali.
“We have shared our expertise with these players,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “This was the key aspect of the camp. They might have participated in many camps before but the main purpose here was to give them an opportunity to train in the real environment.
“We not only helped them in pointing out their mistakes but also shared our playing experiences.”
Ahmed added that while some spinners had the talent to make it big, others would need to work harder to make a name for themselves.
“There are players who have the ability to pick things up straightaway and there are others who need time to develop. But whatever the case, one who follows advice and implements it has a greater chance of success.”
Meanwhile, Qadir said that the time has come for the players to put the training to good use.
“I’ve worked with the best bowlers from the country but now the responsibility is on the players on how to use that talent to make their way to the top,” said Abdul.
