16 escape coronavirus quarantine in Matiari

Escapees included eight persons who were quarantined at a mosque in Saeedabad

KARACHI:
At least 16 persons suspected of having contracted the coronavirus escaped quarantine with the help of four locals in Matiari District.

The escapees included eight persons who were quarantined at a mosque in Saeedabad and as many others who were placed in quarantine at a house nearby the mosque.

All of them belong to Mohmand Agency in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and are part of the Tableeghi Jamaat. They were placed in quarantine on April 1.

A case has been registered against the three persons, Rafique Mallah, Manzoor Ilahi Rajput and Muhammad Ayub Pathan, who took the responsibility of keeping a watch on and looking after the escapees. All three of them have been arrested.


The arrested persons were presented before the court on Tuesday and were granted bails.

Meanwhile, Hyderabad DIG Naeem Shaikh has suspended New Saeedabad Police Station SHO Mukhtiar Dero for the negligence.

According to district administration officials, the K-P government has been contacted and provided the details of the escapees.
