Locals of Hunza Nagar started digging and broadening the spillway on their own on Thursday.

Deputy Commissioner Hunza Nagar Zafar Waqar Taj stated that the outcome of the digging could be very dangerous, and said that it was putting human life and the land in danger.

He added that there will be a lot of damage if the water passage through the spillway stops. Taj told Express news that the local administration and police are trying to convince people not to pursue the digging.

Earlier, locals of Hunza had carried out a protest rally and and reached Attabad Lake after confrontation with police officials, where they started digging the spillway in an attempt to widen it.
