Sports complex to be converted into quarantine centre
PSB’s medical unit has been working to screen those arriving at the complex
ISLAMABAD:
With the number of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) cases showing no signs of slowing down, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) is poised to convert the Pakistan Sports Complex (PSC) in the federal capital into a quarantine facility.
The sports complex is the largest such facility in the country, sprawling over 4,500 square metres and houses the most Olympic-level sporting facilities in the country.
A PSB spokesperson on Monday said that in the initial phase, the government intends to convert all three hostels in the complex, including Jinnah, Allama Iqbal and Fatima Jinnah hostels into isolation facilities.
Moreover, space in the Liaquat gymnasium, Rodham and Hamidi halls will also be utilised for this purpose.
Dressing rooms in the Jinnah stadium will also be equipped with beds for accommodating patients, adding that all preparations on their part were complete.
Responding to a question, the official said that the necessary equipment will be procured from the relevant departments and that they will just provide the space for setting up the isolation centre.
Moreover, the spokesperson said that PSB’s medical unit has been working to screen those arriving at the complex.
