Nicl Scam: Moonis trial starts Aug 9
Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry had transferred the case to the district and sessions judge.
LAHORE:
District and Sessions Judge Mujahid Mustaqeem Ahmed will start the hearing of the National Insurance Corporation Limited (NICL) land scam case against Moonis Elahi and others on August 9. Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry had transferred the case to the district and sessions judge after Malik Abdul Rasheed, the judge of a special court for banking offences, refused to continue hearing the case, following a heated argument with Elahi’s lawyer on July 5. The judge said that the counsel had tried to influence the court and he could not work under threats and intimidation. He then referred the case to the LHC chief justice. The federal government has issued a notification giving the district and sessions court the powers of a special court for banking offences.
