PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police department has decided to utilise the services of the Public Liaison Councils (PLCs) to fight the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Hazara division police chief, DIG Qazi Jameelur Rehman, told The Express Tribune that at least 724 PLCs have been reactivated in different areas to gather information relevant to the Covid-19 situation.

In the first order of business, these PLCs will share information about members of the Tableeghi Jamaat, hoarders and people who have arrived in their respective districts from foreign countries.

Rehman said these local councils would also inform the police about the shortage of food stocks or other essential items due to the lockdown in their respective areas.

They would also inform the police about people exploiting the coronavirus situation, he added. DIG Rehman said at least 4,000 people associated with these liaison councils have been mobilized for creating awareness regarding the pandemic.

He said the liaison council members will use loudspeakers to inform people about the dangers of the virus and how people protect themselves.  They will also conduct a door-to-door campaign.

A member of the Abbottabad PLC, Sardar Tauqeer, told THE Express Tribune that they have already started the door-to-door campaigns, using loudspeakers for spreading the message of the provincial government to stay at home to help the local administration in locking down the city.
