At least Rs5m robbed in two incidents
Habib Bank Limited is yet to ascertain the amount stolen.
ISLAMABAD:
Robbers struck at a bank and a house in broad daylight on Thursday and made away with more than Rs5 million.
In the first incident, six robbers struck at Habib Bank Limited in the heart of the city’s industrial area in I-9/2 and took at least Rs2.5 million. The management is still calculating the losses and fears the actual amount taken is much more.
The bank staff told the police that the robbers equipped with automatic weapons entered the bank soon after the lunch break was over. The two security guards of the bank surrendered their weapons before the dacoits who then went on a looting spree. The emptied the cash counters and took money from the bank vault.
This was the second bank robbery in the same area in one month. Police are yet to trace whereabouts of the criminals of the last robbery.
In the second incident, four armed men broke into the house of a retired army officer in Bani Gala. Brig. (Retired) Khalid Sohail’s family told the police that the robbers held them at gunpoint and made away with cash and jewellery worth Rs2.5 million.
Bhara Kahu police launched investigations into the case and said they were hopeful that the robbers could be traced with the “enough” evidence they left behind.
