Faldo Series comes to Pakistan
Young golfers to compete in country’s leg starting today.
KARACHI:
In a hugely positive development for Pakistan’s young golfers, Karachi will stage the Pakistan leg of the Faldo Series that tees off today at the Karachi Golf Club with upcoming under-21 golfers taking part in the event.
The Faldo Series was established in 1996 by legendary English golfer Sir Nick Faldo with a total of 35 tournaments having already taken place in 25 countries with over 5,000 golfers participating each year. The series is also considered to be a way into the professional circuit.
The 54-hole event will offer Pakistan’s leading young golfers – male and female – a chance to display their skills as well as an opportunity to feature in the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final at Mission Hills Golf Club in China next March.
PGF delighted to hold event
The Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) was ecstatic as it made the announcement on the eve of the tournament.
“We’re very happy and excited to bring the Faldo series to Pakistan,” said the PGF Secretary Taimur Hassan. “We have a rich history of golf and we hope that, with Faldo’s support and our partners, we can provide a real boost to the new generation of players in Pakistan.”
Faldo, in a statement, said, “With the series providing opportunities to 5,000 golfers in more than 25 countries worldwide, we are delighted to expand our efforts to Pakistan. Our aim is to provide Pakistan’s talented young golfers with the competitive experience they need to develop further.”
During an illustrious career as a pro, Faldo won six majors including three Open Championships and three Masters. He was ranked the world number one for a total of 98 weeks.
