Man critically injured by in-laws

Victim was called outside village where his wife’s relatives severed his limbs

A man’s arms and legs were severed by his in-laws with an axe in Gojra tehsil, Toba Tek Singh.

The man, identified as Noman Shahid, had married Sana Bibi, a resident of Chak 211-GB, reportedly against the wish of their families. After marriage, Noman brought his wife to his village, Chak 179-GB, in Gojra tehsil. Relatives of his wife Sana, including Rizwan, Shahid and Arsalan, were also residents of Noman’s village, The Express Tribune learnt.

On the day of the incident, Sana’s relatives called Noman to meet them at a primary school outside the village where they reportedly severed his arms and legs with an axe to avenge his marriage with the woman of their family. The victim was left to suffer on the ground for several hours, while the attackers remained present at the scene with weapons. Reportedly, no one could come to the victim’s rescue.


Noman was shifted to Gojra Tehsil Headquarter (THQ) Hospital in a critical condition where he was referred to Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. Gojra police came into action after the incident was reported in the media.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar took notice of the incident and the Toba Tek Singh district police officer ordered formation of teams to take action against the accused. Gojra police registered cases against the accused and conducted raids to arrest them. The case was lodged by the victim’s father Shahid Riaz. Police arrested Rizwan and Shahid and started a search for their accomplices. A police official said the third suspect, Arsalan, is hiding in southern Punjab.

Medical reports show that Noman's limbs were severed and bones fractured in the brutal assault. The victim’s father said that the accused had political influence, while he was a poor man. He demanded justice for his son.
