RDA to distribute rations

Punjab government has prepared a plan to distribute Rs12,000 in cash and rations to some 15,000 deserving families

The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has developed a project to distribute rations amongst those who have been the hardest hit by the lockdown imposed in the city due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The authority has also developed a smartphone app for the destitute to send appeals for free food.

Any citizen who sends a message on the app can have food rations delivered to their home at any time of day or night. They can also retrieve the parcel from locations close to their home, RDA Chairman Tariq Murtaza said. Murtaza said that he had met with the heads of several NGOs, including Saylani Welfare Trust, in this regard.


The mobile application is expected to be developed within two days, whereas, the food delivery process is expected to formally commence within 48 hours. The project will start from the Sadiqabad area of Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi District Zakat Committee, on the instructions of the Punjab government, has prepared a plan to distribute Rs12,000 in cash and rations to some 15,000 deserving families.

Zakat Department has ordered all 1,166 local Zakat committees of the Rawalpindi district to prepare lists of deserving people apart from those deserving families who were already registered to the department in their respective areas till March 29.
