The living allowance was to be released in June this year
KARACHI:
The Sindh government has decided to release Rs600 million on account of a living allowance from Zakat funds early.
This step is being taken in order to provide assistance to more than 94,000 families facing financial constraints in the aftermath of the province-wide lockdown, enforced to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Under the initiative, Rs6,000 will be given to each family registered with the Zakat and Ushr Department. The amounts will be transferred to the recipients' bank accounts.
At present, 94,934 families are registered with the department, and they will, collectively, be given funds adding up to Rs600 million.
Initially, the living allowance was to be released in June this year, but in light of the current situation, the government has decided to release the funds ahead of the decided date.
