FM Qureshi emphasises on collective efforts to deal with pandemic

Foreign minister thanked his French counterpart for taking care of 13 Pakistanis affected by the virus

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Tuesday emphasised on collective efforts to deal with the challenge of the coronavirus pandemic.

During a telephonic conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, FM Qureshi expressed sorrow and grief over deaths caused by the pathogen in France.

The foreign minister also thanked his French counterpart for providing timely medical aid and taking care of 13 Pakistanis affected by the virus.

The FM reiterated the developing countries have been facing economic difficulties due to the coronavirus outbreak. Prime Minister Imran Khan had also suggested for relaxation in payment of debts by developing countries.


“Economic sanctions imposed against Iran should be immediately lifted so that the country could utilize its resources on dealing with the pandemic,” FM said.

Foreign Minister Drian indicated to appraise the G-20 summit with the issue of sanctions against Iran and economic difficulties faced by developing countries.

FM Qureshi also appraised his French counterpart about the critical situation of the eight million Kashmiris due to Indian government’s curfew in Indian-Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and subsequent shortage of medicine and food.

“There are reports of the spread of coronavirus in the areas under curfew in occupied Kashmir,” FM said. “The international community will have to play its role in view of the threats being posed to the lives of the innocent Kashmiris.”

Both the foreign ministers agreed to continue the consultative process to deal with the pandemic and promote bilateral cooperation.
