RAWALPINDI:
A play area for children which had been recently set up by the Rawalpindi Metropolitan Corporation (RMC) in the Commercial Market’s park has been demolished. The area will be cleared and used a car park.
However, the park’s contractor has termed the demolition of the ‘Children’s World’ (Bacho ki Dunya) play area a violation of court orders and has announced plans to submit a petition against the move.
The 24-year-old park, which is currently closed as part of preventive measure against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), saw teams of the RMC arrive at the ground on Sunday along with heavy machinery to demolish the play area.
Apart from some fixed structures, electronic rides and swings installed inside the park were also demolished in the operation.
Park contractor Masood Anwar said that he had obtained a stay order from the court against the demolition.
