Following intelligence reports of resurging banned militant outfits and indoctrination of students by religious seminaries across the Punjab, the provincial government has directed law enforcement chiefs to monitor the situation closely, The Express Tribune has learnt.
Intelligence reports revealed that proscribed organisations have resurfaced, especially in southern Punjab.
After receiving this report, the Punjab government sent a circular to police and other law enforcement agencies across the province, directing them to gather details of seminaries involved in ‘imparting militant education to their pupils.’
They have also been directed to strictly monitor 30 religious seminaries across the province. Of these 30, eight are located each in Lahore and Bahawalpur, four each in Multan and Rahim Yar Khan, three in Jhang, two in Sialkot and one in Lodhran.
Taking note of re-emergence of leaders and activists of banned militant groups in the province, the authorities directed law enforcement agencies to stringently monitor all terror suspects mentioned in the fourth schedule of the anti-terrorism act.
The authorities have also directed law enforcement agencies to propose suggestions for banning new organisations whose activists have been involved in suspicious activities.
Despite being banned earlier, these organisations continue to flourish under new names.

few months ago, after Jumaa prayers in a mosque located in Tariq road, khi. The Maulvi sahab of the mosque made the dua, condemning USA and said that may God set his wrath upon USA and destroy it.. I was shocked to hear this and felt very disappointed. It is the narrow thinking of uneducated people which make up a vast segment of our society of which Pakistans image is destroyed.
Gather these outfits from all nook and corners of our country and place them at one place or territory later "Drone" them out. That's it.
Another example of how Pakistan is the joke heard around the world. I'm tired of our leaders making us look like fools and the numerous terrorist-sympathizers and HT-types/Imran Khan-types perpetuating Pakistan's misery by telling us religion is the answer. If it were, Pakistan would not be in the situation it is today. We are NOT Arabs. We are NOT terrorists. We are NOT rabid Wahabi-fundamentalists. Until we realize what we are NOT, we cannot be Pakistani.
For a country that prides itself on being Muslim -- why hasn't the State taken a more active role in managing the religion -- having these religious fanatics who spout hatred is one of the core problems that Pakistan needs to deal with.
I agree with all of you above. I would add that in addition to madrassas, certain certain imams and clerics in masjids within Lahore are also spreading the intolerant doctrine. For the common folk, it becomes difficult to distinguish between what is religious knowledge to what is misguidance.
Religious education should just NOT BE, especially in the absence of science, world history and all.
madrassas have become the breeding grounds for terrorists.the children in madrassas are fed a steady diet of misoygyny, homophobia and intolerance of atheists and agnostics. madrassas must be closed down before they produce another generation of religious fanatics who think that killing non-msulims will land them in heaven.
Any stupid person could forecast this situation, but our policy makers and law enforcement agencies have shown extreme wisdome by their standards to identify this situation. Our country management is full of "wanna be" and "Losers" Somebody please find me a real leader... I'll be thankful
