Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar has slammed people for stockpiling as the world fights to stop the global spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

COVID-19 cases are soaring, with more than 200,000 confirmed since cases emerged in Wuhan late last year. Governments across Europe, North America and Asia have rolled out tough measures to put the brakes on the ferocious spread of the deadly pandemic.

Speaking on the matter, Akhtar was disappointed to see the reaction of general public towards the unfortunate situation and lack of consideration for people around them.

“I have seen people stockpiling for three months, leaving all the stores empty. What are you people doing? What guarantee is there that you will be alive after three months? Who are you stockpiling for?” said Akhtar in a YouTube video.

“Think about a person who is on daily wages and needs to feed his family every day. How will he fulfil his needs if you people don’t leave anything behind for him? Please stop this because humanity comes first,” he added.

Earlier, the Rawalpindi Express had also slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for delaying the decision to postpone the Habib Bank Limted (HBL) Pakistan Super League (PSL) despite the global spread of coronavirus — according to Cricket Pakistan.

The HBL PSL season five had been postponed indefinitely after a meeting between PCB and PSL franchises on Tuesday.

The decision was taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and PSL franchises, unanimously, after one foreign player was suspected with coronavirus.

“Honestly it was a stupid mistake by the PCB to continue the league. Also I’m pretty sure that they would have kept it running if the case had not emerged,” he said.

“When the coronavirus outbreak happened, we should not have messed up the situation and should have stood united with the entire world,” he added. “PCB was late about six days with regards to suspension of the league. Putting people at risk was not a sensible thing to do.”
