‘We are the problem’

ISLAMABAD: George Fulton’s article, “We are the problem,” (June 16) raises several pertinent issues. The divide between life as we know it in the cities, from the comfort zone of cafes and designer stores, is removed from Pakistan’s reality. So, unsurprisingly, our perception of life is distorted. The urban elite are a breed of pseudo-intellectuals and coffee shop analysts. The best they can do is rant, rave, carp and complain, since they are unable to be the change they want to see in others. And this disconnect is getting bigger, as they become more firmly entrenched in their lives revolving around sitcoms, parties and drawing room conversations.
