Corruption suspicion: FIA investigating senior engineer
PWD officer was caught travelling without proper paper work.
LAHORE:
The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Punjab chapter has started investigations in a case against Humaira Khurram, a Pakistan Public Works Department executive engineer (XEN) for illegally obtaining an international employment card and travelling abroad without a no-objection certificate from the authorities concerned.
Khurram has also been charged with having assets beyond her declared income, getting Canadian nationality and concealing the fact that she was a government servant.
According to an FIA official, Khurram, a BS-18 officer, took a three-day leave from the department to travel to Karachi. Instead, she travelled to the US on a private passport. [Government servants require an ex-Pakistan leave and an NOC before travelling abroad.]
Sources said that she was suspected to have visited the US to deposit ill gotten money into her bank account in the US. The FIA has sought records of Personal Identification Secure Comparison and Evaluation System from the Karachi airport showing that Khurram travelled to the States on a private passport.
FIA officials said that a case under Section-7 of the Passport Act, 17/1 of the Immigration Ordinance and 33 of the NADRA Act might be registered against the officer.
