Bilateral trade: Govt considers more imports from India
Final decision after Economic Coordination Committee approval.
ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has decided in principle to allow the import of certain items from India, however, the final decision will be taken by the federal cabinet, after approval of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC).
According to a document available with The Express Tribune, these items include laboratory testing equipment, air-brake equipment, spares for railway locomotives, all kinds of laboratory glassware, cotton waste, equipment for taping various kinds of thread and machinery for rice bran oil refining.
According to the document, proposals to allow the import of certain items suggested by various industrialists and trade organisations were also under consideration.
Sources confirmed that the list of importable goods from India will be expanded as these items are not produced locally.
