ISLAMABAD:
The federal police on Sunday suspended two counter-terrorism force (CTF) officials for their alleged involvement in a robbery case, the police spokesperson said on Sunday.

The suspensions of the CTF line officer and muharrar were ordered by the Islamabad Police Inspector General (IG) Amir Zulfiqar Khan on Sunday.

He further directed to set up an inquiry committee under AIG Haroon Joya comprising CTF SP Farooq Ahmed Battar and Special Branch SP Liaquat Hayat Niyazi. The committee will probe the matter and submit a report to IG, after which a decision for taking any punitive action against the officers will be considered.

On Saturday, two passersby were killed when robbers shot them while attempting to flee after looting a citizen outside an ATM within the remits of the Sector I-9 police station.

A policeman and a robber were injured in the shootout as well. The robber later succumbed to his injuries and was identified as a police officer.

Zonal SP Sheikh Zubair Ahmed told the media that the suspects, riding three separate motorbikes, had swooped down on the ATM just as the victim withdrew some cash.

The suspects snatched the Rs10,000 the victim had withdrawn and fled.
