K-P assures security for Aurat March
Conditioned to whether march was held in line with the culture and other norms of the province
PESHAWAR:
With at least two high courts in the country ruling that there can be no bar on women holding a march, the provincial government on Friday said that it will provide security to all those who stage a demonstration this Sunday.
However, this support was conditioned to whether any protest or march was held in line with the culture and other norms of the province.
This was stated on Friday by Advisor to the Chief Minister on Information Ajmal Wazir while addressing a programme on strengthening supply chain management of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-p) Health Directorate. The programme had been organised by Nutrition International in collaboration with the K-P Health Directorate and the University of Peshawar’s Institute of Management Studies.
Talking about the annual Aurat March (women’s march) Wazir said that in every democratic country, there is no obligation or restriction on women marching.
However, he added that in Pakistan, the principles of Islam should be followed.
“If the march of women is according to our culture and norms, we will fully support it,” he said.
Addressing fears of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreading, Wazir said that the provincial government has taken immediate steps in this regard, particularly on the border crossings with Afghanistan and at the Bacha Khan International Airport (BKIA).
“No one should be worried about the Coronavirus as everything is under the control of the government,” Wazir assured, adding that the recovery rate from the virus stands at an encouraging 98%.
